Volunteer Opportunities

RIF Pittsburgh welcomes volunteers to help with our regularly scheduled Reading Celebrations and special Community Celebrations. Read on to learn more about volunteer opportunities at RIF Pittsburgh.

 

Everybody Wins! (ongoing)- Share one lunch break a week with a second or third grade student through the Everybody Wins! Program. Everybody Wins! is a unique literacy and mentoring program that brings volunteers and students together to read and enjoy books. By reading aloud in a relaxed environment, volunteers promote reading for pleasure and foster a love of books. Volunteers have the option of meeting with their student each week or alternating with another volunteer to meet twice a month. RIF Pittsburgh is an affiliate of Everybody Wins! USA.

 

 

Reading Celebration Team (ongoing)– RIF Pittsburgh seeks energetic and fun-loving volunteers to help with our Reading Celebrations at schools and community centers across the city of Pittsburgh. Volunteers are needed to help children choose books and engage children in motivational reading activities with the support of RIF Pittsburgh’s trained staff. Reading Celebrations occur throughout the school year and the summer, and volunteers are asked to help with at least 3 Reading Celebrations throughout the year. We serve children in neighborhoods all throughout the city of Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas, and volunteers are welcome to request specific sites that they want to help. Please note that volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from Reading Celebrations.

 

 

Special Events (one-time) – Throughout the year, RIF Pittsburgh participates in local community events, providing free books and fun activities to engage children, families, and communities in the FUN of reading! Volunteers are needed at these events to help set up, assist with the reading activities and book selection, and interact with children and families. These events occur throughout the year all around the city of Pittsburgh, and if you are interested, RIF Pittsburgh will contact you in advance to invite you to attend.
