Read to Your Parent

The Read to Your Parent Program is designed to get parents involved in their children's reading development and encourage children to become proficient readers. The program brings children and their families together to highlight the importance of reading.

The program helps children reach the National 25 Books reading goal by encouraging them to take RIF Pittsburgh or library books home and read them to a parent or family member. Every time a child reads a book aloud to his parent, his teacher gives him a special sticker to track his progress toward the 25-book goal. We also provide incentives such as educational games, books, and gift certificates to further motivate children and their parents to read together.

Since 1993, our Read to Your Parent Program has provided the tools and motivation for more than 5,600 children and parents to read more than 88,000 books together!
