About RIF Pittsburgh Our Mission: To provide children with the resources, motivation and opportunities to develop a life-long love of reading. Our Organization: We are dedicated to developing low-income children in our community into capable readers by providing access to books and creating positive environments that motivate children to want to read. By focusing our efforts on the schools, community centers, and afterschool programs serving our city's most economically disadvantaged children, we strive to make literacy an achievable goal for all children. Our programs impact children continuously throughout their elementary school education, providing consistent books and motivational activities designed to foster a life-long appreciation for reading. Since 1984, our Books for Keeps Program has given more than 460,000 books to over 192,000 low-income children. In the last year alone, we provided more than 60,000 books to more than 20,000 children. Since 1993, our Read to Your Parent Program has provided the tools and motivation for more than 6,200 children and parents to read more than 94,000 books together! |
