RIF Pittsburgh at the CLP's First Children's Literacy Summit
RIF Pittsburgh was proud to participate in the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s (CLP) first Children’s Literacy Summit on September 27, 2025. RIF staff partnered with CLP and other literacy organizations to plan the event, which brought together stakeholders in children’s literacy: educators, librarians, nonprofit leaders, caregivers, and academics.
During the event Kyle Fahsel, our Director of Mentoring, spoke about “Whose Job is Children’s Literacy?” on a fantastic panel moderated by a former RIF team member and volunteer, Cynthia Battle. One of our Children’s Programming Coordinators, Kevin Yohe, also tabled at the Children’s Literacy Resource Fair, giving away books to kids and information to summit attendees about our programming.
The summit was capped off by a special presentation from children’s author and librarian John Shu, whose book This is a School has been a RIF giveaway book in years past. It was a meaningful day of conversations and resource-sharing focused on how we are all working together to boost children’s literacy and help kids learn to love reading!
